The aim of this Research Topic in Frontiers in Veterinary Science is to gather the most recent advances related to the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidants on female reproduction with special attention to ovarian follicles.
Studies on the impact of oxidative stress and antioxidant factors on female reproduction have gained interest. Besides the needed information on the effects of specific nutrients affecting animal reproduction, in vitro systems also need to be optimized by medium enrichment with antioxidants.
Both in vivo and in vitro research dealing with female reproduction are welcome, especially when meeting recent advances in nutritional and reproductive technologies. Review articles, Original research papers and Methods papers giving an update on key factors playing a role on ovarian function and redox balance are encouraged.
We would like to focus especially on following themes:
