Cancer is the 2nd leading causes of death worldwide, irrespective of age, sex and locality. It causes a huge economic burden and affecting both individuals and health care systems. The therapeutic approaches used to treat cancer such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, depend on the individual’s condition which can vastly vary. From a clinical perspective, there are several agents in practice, however, they face many challenges in terms of the sensitivity, efficacy, and/or safety of the approaches they employ. In light of the therapeutic potential of natural products as anticancer agents such as vincristine, vinblastine, Taxol etc., it is strongly believed this commodity has outstanding impending but need scientific studies. The development of new techniques has greatly facilitated the cancer research/drug discovery from natural agents, and thus, several new isolated compounds have been reported to be in preclinical and clinical stages.
In this Research Topic, we aim to solicit original research, reviews and meta-analysis manuscripts that focus on various natural products and their isolates with significant anticancer effects in both preclinical and clinical phases. Evidence-based studies on natural isolates such as flavonoids, alkaloids, glycosides, terpenes etc. are welcome as well as individual single compounds with detailed mechanistic studies that could be candidates of the clinical studies. Clinical trials on natural anticancer therapies are strongly accepted.
