About this Research Topic
Nevertheless, its application is being expanded to a wider purpose. TMS can be used to transiently perturb the function of the targeted cortical region and explore causal relations to behavior. In addition, TMS is used to evaluate cortical excitability and to obtain functional maps of specific brain regions. Recently, a huge focus of research has gone towards the development of neuroimaging techniques aimed to elucidate the functional organization and neuronal networks of the brain. Several techniques have been applied for this purpose, including TMS.
In this Research Topic, we aim to further elucidate the TMS technique as a potential tool to deepen the current knowledge on the structural and functional organization of the brain, in health and in pathological conditions.
Topics of interest:
1. Use of TMS to link the causality between specific brain regions and behavior.
2. Neuroplasticity mechanisms behind the TMS effects.
3. TMS as a clinical tool: diagnosis and treatment of neurological and psychiatric disorders.
4. Challenges of combining TMS with neuroimaging techniques.
We welcome contributions which inspect novel applications and future perspective on the role of TMS in brain Mapping, in the form of, but not limited to, Original Research, Reviews and Methods.
