Asthma is a complex chronic inflammatory heterogenous lung disease, highly prevalent, frequently undiagnosed often under-treated; associated with mortality. Although several advances have been made towards personalized treatment in asthmatic patients with targeted biologic agents already being approved and with several others in development, there is still a field to be explored in both clinical and basic studies.
Biomarkers have already been identified for asthma treatment management, phenotypes and endotypes have been proposed but more biomarkers are at need to be identified not only to classify patients before the initiation of treatment, but also to further monitor the asthmatic population during treatment.
In this Research Topic, we would like to welcome the submission of original research studies (either clinical or basic), meta-analysis, and state-of-the-art reviews related to asthma management. Focused will be placed on the identification of biomarkers, in the context of precision medicine for patients with asthma, by identifying phenotypes and endotypes and translating basic cell-based research to clinical practice. Under the light of those terms, this Research Topic aims to put together novel data so as to move the current knowledge of asthma forward.
