Parasites use different strategies to infect the host and further reproduce themselves. Recent literature has shown that protein kinases play an important role in the infection process of a variety of parasites. Protein kinases are a group of enzymes known to catalyse the phosphorylation of a wide variety of cellular substrates involved in different signalling cascades. They can affect the overall virulence and pathogenicity of the pathogens. They are also involved in regulating pathogen life cycle and infectivity. Moreover it has been shown that they can be considered as druggable targets for infections by different parasites.
The goal of this Research Topic is to advance our understanding of the role that different protein kinases play in infections caused by various parasites, describing their common and differentiating aspects and give an overview of the influence and potential use of these proteins in parasitic diseases.
The Research Topic welcomes Original Research, Reviews, Mini Reviews and other article types accepted in the journal.
