Gambling Disorder (GD) was classified as an addictive disorder in DSM-5 almost nine years ago. As the first behavioral addiction, it also serves as a possible blueprint for other behaviors that might be considered addictive, such as gaming or internet use. With an ever-increasing body of research on GD, what do we know today about the addictive properties of gambling, its relationship to other diagnoses, and what it means for other behavioral addictions? The Covid-19 pandemic has had a dramatic impact on how people work, interact and entertain themselves. What does this mean for gambling, gaming, and other possible behavioral addictions?
This Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive view on the state of the GD diagnosis by investigating current perspectives and novel research on gambling disorder, and how it relates to other addictive disorders. We will accept Original Research, Systematic Reviews, Methods articles, Hypothesis and Theory, Clinical Trial articles, Case Reports, Opinion articles, and Study Protocols.
Topics may include but are not limited to:
• GD and its relationship to other addictive disorders, e.g. Alcohol use disorder, “Gaming disorder” etc.
• Novel treatment approaches for GD.
• GD as an impulse control disorder, could it still be a viable concept?
• What can the GD diagnosis tell us about other addictive behaviors?
• How does the convergence of gaming and gambling influence the GD diagnosis?
