Introduction and general guidelinesThis series aims to highlight the latest experimental techniques and methods used to investigate fundamental questions in Predictive Toxicology research from prediction of drug safety to 3-D models in assessment of topical toxicity. Research can show computational modeling approaches including QSAR, PBPK, and machine learning. Research may utilize
in silico databases, computational tools, and in vitro new approach methodologies (NAMs) which aid next generation risk assessments (NGRAs) prediction of target organ toxicities. Review articles or opinions on methodologies or applications including the advantages and limitations of each are welcome. This Topic will highlight technologies and up-to-date methods which help advance science.
The contributions to this collection will undergo peer-review. Novelty may vary, but the utility of a method or protocol must be evident. We welcome contributions covering all aspects of Predictive Toxicology. Submissions will be handled by the team of Topic Editors in the respective sections.

This Research Topic welcomes:

• Reviews and mini-reviews of topical methods and protocols highlighting the important future directions of the field.

Predictive Toxicology Guidelines Substantial progress has been made in understanding how drugs and other chemicals cause toxicity in vivo, in humans and experimental animals.
This is being used to devise novel predictive tools and methods, which now are being used to aid more efficient development of safe and effective drugs and to assess the safety of chemicals present in cosmetics, foodstuffs, household products etc.
Submissions are encouraged which highlight useful tools and methods, provide useful insights into their value and limitations, and illustrate how they can be used to support safety risk assessments.
