Modern business (industries, markets, enterprises, entrepreneurs, etc.) are often vulnerable due to the effects of environmental hazards, financial down-turn, political instability, or unexpected global crisis like the COVID-19 pandemic. The aforementioned facts can lead to public health problems, including those in the physical, psychological, or social aspects. In such context, situations are in rapidly changing even on a daily basis. Rules of the game are getting complex but also more easily to be replaced by new ones. Both the core reason and the key solution behind such phenomenon is the composition of, and relationships among, a diverse array of stakeholders for values. Against such backdrops, it is necessary to adopt a value co-creation (VCC) perspective into the studies of modern business, as a new but integrative perspectives that are critical but rarely been considered. Value co-creation deals with the collective engagement of stakeholders for co-producing shared values while containing individually specific interests. Hence, it is more suitable (as compared to traditional value oriented theories) to act as a theoretical foundation in studies for complex public health problems in modern business contexts. Value co-creation theory is also more appropriate for the investigation of a long-term, dynamic, and/or co-evolutionary issue/problem.
This Research Topic would like to attract submissions of, and will provide readers with state-of-the-art theory and practical information on, the influences of modern business on public health issues from the VCC theory. More specifically, we are looking forward to papers grounded on diverse research disciplines (Economic, Psychology, Sociology, etc.). We are also eager to see an integrative lens that consist different but complimentary rationales. We do not limit the scope of research topics and questions, but merely suggest some topics that are related to the theme of modern business and public health:
- Modern business generated antecedents (e.g., industrial contaminants) for public health issues
- Interventions/Mechanisms through which the issues can be resolved
- Multidisciplinary theory integration/construction
- New business models for a better solution
- Eco-system for public Health (e.g., public-private partnership)
- Technology imperatives
- Leadership and intellectual capital (human capital, knowledge, social networks, etc.)
- Policy/institutional and societal (e.g., demography) issues
- Social innovation or social entrepreneurship
- Global crisis (e.g., COVID-19) or events
- Cross-national / cross-culture / cross-institutional comparisons
- Education issues
- Case studies / historian investigation
Note that all submitted papers should contain value co-creation as a key part of the study, whether as a theoretical foundation, a construct, a mechanism, or implications offered.
