The evolution of neonatal care with the diffusion of developmental care, centered on the family, as well as the knowledge provided by long-term follow-up studies, raise new questions about the future. More recent fields of investigation such as quality of life, behavioral regulation of preterm children, impact on the family, adult outcome or very long-term physiological data are still largely unexplored. What happens to premature babies after the first years of school? How do they experience adolescence and integration into adulthood? Can the long-term impact on the family be assessed?
A few studies provide partial answers to these more recent areas of investigation. However, this is now the direction of the work of the teams practicing developmental care.
This research topics aims to explore, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Long term impact of developmental care
- Preterm birth and impact on family: attachment in preterm infant, prematurity and parenthood, impact on siblings
- Quality of life of children and adult born preterm
- Children behavior regulation: development of executive functions, determinants and treatment of ADHD disorders, autism spectrum disorders, risk of addictive behavior
- School achievement of the former preterm infant: areas to explore
