The brain and its neural circuitry are among the most complex and perplexing natural systems. A main question in neuroscience is how such complex systems process the incoming perceptual, motor, and multisensory cognitive information to direct behavior and how we can model, replicate, and interpret this system's function. In recent decades, several methodologies and technologies have been extensively used to model different biological systems.
Brain mapping, defined by Society for Brain Mapping and Therapeutics (SBMT) in 2013, has been the focus of various multi-disciplinary studies. Many brain mapping methods (e.g., neuroimaging) use signals in the electromagnetic spectrum to describe brain structure or function. Such methods are now combined with big data and artificial intelligence. And data science has become key to advance our research in brain mapping.
This Research Topic covers recent directions and future perspectives in brain mapping. We welcome submissions on recent advances on brain mapping from different research methodologies. Original research and review articles, together with theoretical work and methods are welcomed. The research includes experimental studies using state of the art in electrophysiology, neuroimaging, and biologically inspired neural networks.
