Sustainable development originated in 1987 and it has become the most widely used type of development in the last decade. This is due to the long-term assurance of the world in the form of 17 global goals. Social sustainability is key for sustainable development and represents a measure of people's well-being and social engagement within an organization and the community. Social sustainability is the process of developing a sustainable place that supports well-being and health, from an integral approach. In fact, employees' sustainable well-being as a result of work environment, positive work attitude and work behavior, has a key spot in the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Employee well-being is directly impacted through good health and well-being (SDG-3), decent work and economic growth (SDG-8), and gender equality (SDG-5). However, these goals are closely associated and are interlinked with one another. Thus, from the work context, companies can contribute to achieving sustainable development goals. The present unrest around the world due to Covid-19 brings “grand” challenges for individuals, societies, organizations, and ultimately social sustainability as a whole. It is a shared consensus among researchers that sparse consideration and commitment has been presented towards social sustainability. We propose that social science can be used as a tool to support long-term sustainability in business and healthy lives at work.
