The digital circular economy aims to renew forms of existing production and consumption to boost environment quality and the economy's growth. It is one of the focused goals to minimize the production residuals and waste. At the same time, it would aim to optimize the functionality of products and materials, and maintain environmental sustainability by adaptation of green growth ideals. The circular economy is upscaled by digital technology via creating and processing data, and handling the complex demands of circular supply chains. Digital circular economy goals are optimizing the functionality and development of products, services, digital technological approach (functional electronics, distributed ledger, & internet related products), and dematerialization closely related to digital twins, artificial intelligence, and reality of the virtual world. The digital circular economy enhances the chances of long-term sustainability for upscaling environment quality with economic development. The dramatic technological and social changes would have significant environmental and energy implications. This Research Topic aims to leverage academic research on divergent disciplines that contribute to both the digital circular economy and environmental sustainability.
The use of digital technology in the present era represents a significant opportunity to scale up the circular economy and provide ideal types of solutions with a particular focus on environmental sustainability. This Research Topic will explore the role of digital transformation in developing a circular economy by adopting functionality to improve sustainability. In this Research Topic, some risk will also become the part of discussion which need to be carefully assessed in the transformation period. The digital circular economy articulates a vision to the industrial sector on how digital technologies will be utilized by adding value in a circular perspective of economy and environmental sustainability.
For this Research Topic, we welcome manuscripts that showcase unique empirical strategies and novel data sources. Additionally, we welcome articles that develop novel theoretical and philosophical contributions and/or integrates findings and theories across multiple disciplines.
Some research questions that might be addressed include:
• Interactions between the digital economy and environmental issues
• Establishing the digital circular economy by digital technologies
• The intersection of energy resources, consumption, environment, and digital platforms
• The modernized resources of transport, fuel consumption, and environmental sustainability
• Elaboration of digital economy and the circular digital economy
• The circular conversion of circular economy digital and digital economy circular
• Artificial intelligence, data to intelligence, Smart Circular Economy Framework, data production to integration, managing materials for increased circularity, safe data storage, digital twins, and transactional activities control by smart green contracts.
• Collection and recycling of materials and of an accompanying monitoring and learning system for a safe circular economy for attaining environmental sustainability and the circular digital economy
Authors may submit Original Research, Methods, Review, Hypothesis & Theory Brief Research Reports and Data Reports.
