African Health Economics and Policy Association and the
WHO Regional Office for Africa, we are pleased to present the Research Topic: “Towards Equitable Health Systems for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in Sub-Saharan Africa”.
Health systems are generally inequitable, delivering more health services to those that need then less. In Africa, many health systems remain inefficient as well. Evidence is required to ensure universal health coverage in Africa, where there is guaranteed access to quality health services. However, this is lacking, and many health systems struggle to make the system. This research agenda aims at filling this gap by generating evidence on equity for universal health care in Africa to influence policy for maximizing the UHC drive in Africa.
The overall goal of the research is to contribute to evidence generation on equity for universal health coverage (UHC) in Africa and contribute to scientific knowledge on equity.
Specifically, the research agenda aims to:
1. Identify high-quality research papers on equity for UHC from early career researchers from Africa.
2. Support the development publication of these papers in a reputable journal.
3. Strengthen capacities of early-career researchers for research to enhance their independence.
The research includes both Original Research on equity, health systems and universal health coverage (UHC) as well Systematic Reviews around these areas in Africa. This may include equity in healthcare service delivery, utilization of health services, health systems functions and UHC.
