Rare bone diseases have long been a neglected research area. But since the growing discoveries of their underlying genetic mutations and the subsequent development of preclinical and animal research models, many new discoveries are being made regarding bone development and bone metabolism. These preclinical studies have brought forward new diagnostic methods and new medical treatments or ideas that may also be important for other rare or general bone diseases in the near future.
This Research Topic deals with recently discovered and innovative preclinical research models, ranging from newly discovered mutations, new signaling pathways or new animal models, that may go or recently led to innovative diagnostic methods and emerging therapies for rare bone diseases with its expected effect on clinical practice.
In this Research Topic, we aim to gather articles that contribute to the major innovative achievements in Rare Bone diseases from a broad Bone Biology perspective. We welcome the submission of Review, Focused Review, Mini-Review, Original Research, Protocol, Method, Perspective and Opinion articles focusing on rare bone diseases that cover the following topics within the scope of Frontiers in Endocrinology:
1. New developments regarding the function of osteoclast, osteoblast, osteocyte, their progenitor cells and their diversity in rare bone diseases;
2. Newly discovered genetic findings underlying rare bone diseases;
3. Innovative recent findings in the bone biology of specific rare bone diseases;
4. Innovative methods to investigate genetic, preclinical, animal, diagnostic and clinical or treatment studies to assess bone biology or its effect on bone biology underlying rare bone diseases; and
5. Innovative discoveries in other diseases and cell metabolisms underlying or related to rare bone diseases and its bone biology.
