Obesity is associated with metabolic disorders such as diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipemia. Therefore, elucidation of the responsive mechanism is an important subject. Leptin was identified as anti-obesity hormone, which represses food intake and body weight gain. As leptin exhibits anti-obesity action, it was initially suspected that exogenous leptin therapy would be efficient for treating the metabolic disorders. However, increased circulating levels of leptin were observed in obesity and most forms of obesity were suggested to be "unresponsive to the circulating levels of leptin". These findings led to the notion that "leptin resistance" may be one of the main causes of obesity. Accordingly, evaluation of the responsible mechanisms of "leptin resistance" would be beneficial for treating the disease. Therefore, based on these observations, the present Research Topic is to highlight to discuss 1) the mechanisms how "leptin resistance" is formed in obesity and 2) the possible strategy for ameliorating "leptin resistance". To this end, we encourage the submission of review articles, methods articles, perspectives and original research papers on the molecular mechanisms and possible treatment against metabolic disorders by ameliorating "leptin resistance".
