Mental health issues (including anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, suicidality, tobacco and alcohol use) in various healthcare professionals, such as physicians of different specialties, nurses working in various settings, psychologists, have become increasing concerns in many countries. Studies suggested that the situation has worsened during the COVID-19 pandemic era, due to many challenges in their professional and personal life. This problem may, in turn, negatively impact health care quality and workforce sustainability. Therefore, it is urgent to understand the mental health status of healthcare professionals and its correlates. It is also of great importance to explore the coping strategies and effective interventions on both institutional and social levels to help promote psychological resilience and mental well-being among healthcare professionals.
This Research Topic mainly aims to solicit studies that focus on the mental health status of different healthcare professional samples and factors associated with the mental issues, including individual characteristics, modulating organizational factors, and management patterns, as well as effective interventions to promote psychological wellbeing among healthcare professionals. Furthermore, we also welcome innovative research on new technologies, such as digitally delivered methods, that can be applied to promote mental health of healthcare professionals.
