This Research Topic is part of the 'Insights in' Research Topics series, including:
•
Insights in integrative bioinformatics - 2021•
Insights into How AI is Accelerating Bioinformatics Drug Discovery - 2021•
IInsights in Computational Bioimaging - 2021 In 2021, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has mobilized an unprecedent response from researchers, leading to the successful development of innovative vaccines with record speed. However, the COVID response has also contributed to a rapid growth in the volume and complexity of data now available to life scientists – and at a time when advances in machine learning enhance our ability to transform these data into actionable insight. Thus, many scientists believe that research practices are undergoing a phase shift, driven by increased adoption of the emerging methods and tools of data science – of which, data visualization is a cornerstone.
To help facilitate this phase shift, Frontiers has initiated a series of focused Research Topics, spanning a broad range of scientific fields. As part of this initiative, the Research Topic on ‘Insights in Bioinformatics Data Visualization – 2021’ will solicit brief, timely contributions from prominent researchers, describing how recent developments in data visualization address current and future challenges in bioinformatics.
In this fast-moving, interdisciplinary field, this special Research Topic aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot capturing the current diversity of approaches and thinking, with the goal of inspiring, informing, and guiding the next generation of researchers in bioinformatics data visualization.
Preferred article types: Brief Research Report, Mini Review, Opinion, Perspective.
