About this Research Topic
Conventional technologies for obtaining aromatic compounds from natural resources have their shortcomings such as insufficient and irrational exploitation of natural resources and ecological and economic drawbacks. To address these issues of conventional processes, new green technologies and solvents have been developed. Moreover, they use environmentally safe solvents, provide process intensification, energy and time saving, products with improved properties, and rational exploitation of resources.
Considering the accelerated development in the field of green technologies and solvents, this Research Topic will provide valuable insights into the current use and future perspective of the application of sustainable and clean extractions and solvents for the attainment of aromas from natural resources. The added value of this topic is the connection between science and industry and joint efforts to scale up and implement these processes.
Researchers are invited to propose relevant research papers and reviews. Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
1. Recovery of aromatic compounds from natural resources using alternative green extractions and solvents
2. Medicinal and aromatic plants / food / marine products / algae / waste and by-products, etc.
3 Supercritical fluid extraction / Subcritical water extraction / Ultrasound-assisted extraction / Microwave-assisted extraction / Enzymatic extraction / Pressurized fluid extraction / Solvent free extraction / Membrane separation / Pulsed electric field / Deep eutectic solvents / Ionic liquids, etc.
4. Chemical and biological characterization and application of aromatic compounds and products obtained with clean technologies
5. Food and nutraceuticals / pharmaceuticals / cosmetics / flavors and fragrances
6. Stabilization and preservation of aromatic compounds using clean processes
7. Design and scale-up of the extraction process
