Genetic engineering has contributed to feed the world's population via improving the crops. However, its applications in transmitting complex features regulated by numerous genes has been restricted. Plant artificial chromosomes (PACs) have the ability to carry a high number of genes and are seen as a promising foundation for future plant genetic engineering. Although the systems of PACs have been successfully constructed, yet there are still challenges.
To make PACs effective platforms, solutions must be found to overcome the obstacles in their application. For instance, innovative techniques for PAC assembly and efficient site-specific recombination methods for integrating numerous genes into PACs are required. By bringing together the greatest ideas, promoting communication, and presenting advancement in PAC study, this Research Topic aims to present an overview of this topic by presenting current developments. Theoretical perspectives are also welcomed.
