This research topic welcomes contributions from the MSPP 34th Scientific Meeting 2021, which is held from 15th to 17th July 2021. The Malaysian Society of Pharmacology and Physiology (MSPP), which was formed in 1976, is the primary leading society comprised of like-minded pharmacologists and physiologists located in Malaysia. To date, MSPP is proud to have organized 33 scientific meetings already, which were carried out on a rotational and voluntary basis among local universities. The scientific meetings have not only attracted local participants to attend and share their knowledge and findings, but they have also attracted many overseas participants from countries such as India, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Indonesia, Kuwait, Nigeria, Australia and Finland. Given the still undergoing Covid-19 pandemic, the MSPP 34th scientific meeting in 2021 is held virtually through an online platform, which has enhanced the reachability of our meeting.
An important focus of both the MSPP 34th scientific meeting and this research topic is to discuss and promote undergoing research on current advances that utilize natural products as an intervention strategy for various conditions specially in the area of cancer, cardiovascular, neurological, and metabolic diseases. This Research Topic seeks to provide opportunities to share and exchange evidence-based practices and scientific endeavors concerning therapeutic natural products among physiologists, pharmacologists, physicians, general practitioners, research scientists and other health care professionals. This scientific meeting and research topic will bring together representatives from the Ministry of Health, academics from Australia, Malaysia and neighboring countries as well as healthcare providers from public hospitals, private clinics and industries. It is also an annual event of networking for young researchers, mentors, and scientists to collaborate and showcase their findings.
Participants from the meeting and the broader scientific community are welcome to submit their basic discoveries and clinical findings in the form of Reviews, Original Research articles and Systematic Reviews, and Hypothesis articles to this Research Topic focusing on the following subtopics, including but not limited to:
• Drug discovery and use of compounds isolated from medicinal plants in cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological disorders.
• Use of therapeutic bioactive compounds in cancer, cardiovascular, metabolic, and neurological disorders.
• Recent developments in pharmacognosy, biosynthesis and related to natural products being used in the treatment and prevention of diseases and disorders.
This Topic will help pave the way towards the discovery of newer drugs from natural sources, to ultimately improve the quality of life of patients and reduce the global burden of disease and its associated comorbidities.
Important notes:
All manuscripts submitted to this collection will need to follow the Guidelines for the conception/peer-review of submissions of the Experimental Pharmacology and Drug Discovery Section. Studies carried out with crude extracts/multiherbal preparations or Original Research based solely on in silico techniques will not be considered for review.
Moreover, manuscripts submitted to this project will also be need to fully comply with the
Four Pillars of Best Practice in Ethnopharmacology (you can freely download the full version
