About this Research Topic
Cardiovascular engineering is a multidisciplinary field aimed at increasing our understanding of cardiovascular disease and developing more therapeutic interventions. It covers a broad range of topics related to the cardiovascular system, including the function of cardiovascular system, and mechanisms of disease, as well as the factors contributing to it, and their treatment. The research in cardiovascular engineering place special emphasis on developing diagnostic methods, therapies and biomedical instruments, which have significant effects on the treatment of patients with cardiovascular diseases.
The goal will be to highlight following key points:
1) Recent scientific advances in cardiovascular devices, computational modeling, imaging, and simulators for pediatric and adult patients.
2) Innovative preclinical (in vitro, in silico, in vivo) models to help guide cardiovascular engineering design, testing, and validation.
3) Different engineering interdisciplinary applications in cardiovascular engineering.
4) Recent progress on the research about gender differences revealed by cardiovascular engineering to help eliminating sex disparities in the research area.
5) New cardiac imaging approaches that enables faster assessment of clinical markers.
6) Key applications and recent developments in machine learning to enhance, automate, or direct design of cardiovascular devices and imaging.
Possible subtopics include:
1) Novel preclinical (in vitro, in silico, in vivo) models for the treatment of complex cardiovascular diseases.
2) Novel cardiac imaging approaches for cardiovascular diseases.
3) Preclinical disease models as a testbed to study personalized cardiovascular engineering design.
4) Novel mechanical deviceābased solutions for managing and treating heart failure.
5) Novel therapies and intervention techniques for heart failure and structural heart disease.
6) Gender specific personalized image-based cardiovascular models.
7) Novel machine learning techniques in cardiovascular engineering.
8) Smart wearable devices for diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
