Unconventional Natural Gas Geoscience

Unconventional natural gas usually refers to coalbed methane, shale gas and tight sandstone gas. As the exploration and development of unconventional natural gas have achieved great success in North America and China, the geological conditions, reservoir characteristics, and geological evaluation theories and methods of unconventional natural gas resources have attracted widespread attention worldwide. In recent years, considerable progress has been made in the geological research of unconventional natural gas reservoirs, which has promoted the exploration, development and production of unconventional natural gas resources. However, there are still some challenges in the fine characterization of reservoir pores and fissures, the heterogeneity of reservoir physical properties, and the study of the microscopic mechanism of gas enrichment and migration. Therefore, it is of great significance to share the progress and progress in unconventional natural gas geoscience and to deal with new challenges.

This Research Topic aims to summarize the new research in the reservoir geology of unconventional natural gas resources and to address the challenges associated with unconventional natural gas exploration and development.
