Digitalization has taken huge steps in medicine. 3D imaging can provide digital data about the patient's anatomy. Simultaneously methods for digital design such as 3D modeling and optimization together with digital manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing has improved significantly. These processes allow using new and existing biomaterials which open rapidly new applications in medicine.
By combining skills of engineering and medicine with these developments we can take an advanced leap example developing and studying new personalized medical treatments and devices with novel material combinations. This development requires a new kind of thinking and creativity to be successful.
