Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death worldwide, even after decades of major advances in treatment. Cardiac rehabilitation (CR), as a continuum of care for patients with CHD after initial treatment, has been shown to significantly improve exercise capacity, preserve heart function, and improve the prognosis. Even though multiple medical centers have established referral to CR, the referral rate and completion rate for CR are still low. The major barriers are lack of center-based CR facilities and lack of patient awareness. To increase the CR participation rate and to improve the outcomes of secondary prevention, more accessible and flexible CR forms are in emergent need. Home-based forms of CR (HBCR) equipped with mobile phones are promising. Some clinical factors might also help to evaluate the risk and benefit the secondary prevention of CHD. In the present Research Topic, we aim to focus on the safety and effectiveness evaluation of HBCR, the application of smartphone-based CR, innovative technologies of CR, and the risk evaluation of residue cardiovascular events in CHD patients. The topic might discuss the latest progress in the field of CR in depth and supply a more effective way for clinical CR work.
In the present Research Topic, we aimed to find more effective and more economic forms of CR forms for CHD patients, to explore the potential of smartphone in CR, to explore novel effective technologies of CR, and to find valuable predictors for secondary prevention of CHD.
