In recent ten years, ocular imaging techniques have developed rapidly, bringing us a deeper understanding of ocular physiology and pathophysiology. The instruments for ocular imaging are constantly updated and have been widely applied in the eye from cornea, anterior chamber angle, the lens to posterior vitreous, retina, and choroid. The combination of multiple imaging techniques overturns the previous recognition and classification system of eye diseases mainly based on planar images, allowing us to observe the new organisms and changes of original structures timely at different sections and levels of eyes. The development of ocular imaging has shown its great potential in many aspects of eye diseases, improving the efficiency of diagnosis, and guiding the treatment, and estimating the prognosis. Meantime, ocular imaging also brings new challenges to clinicians, such as the rapid updating of knowledge and the misreading of images. The reconstruction of eye diseases knowledge system standardization and the effectiveness and applicability of emerging technology still need to be verified.
This Research Topic aims to bring the readers new insights into the development and application of ocular imaging in pathogenesis, diagnosis, therapy, and prognosis of eye diseases. We hope to compile the clinical and laboratory researches to introduce the novel technology or instrument of ocular imaging that bring on the new strategy and understanding of eye disease management, the new interpretation of eye structure and disease characteristics under multimodal imaging from pathophysiology to early diagnosis and clinical treatment, identification, and application of multimodal imaging biomarkers and evaluation of artificial intelligence model combined with ocular imaging for the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
We welcome the submissions of Original Research, Methods, Review, Mini Review, Perspective, Clinical Trial, Case Report, Brief Research Report. Original, high-quality contributions that are not yet published or that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences are particularly welcome.
We would like investigators to contribute to the introduction and application of novel ocular imaging technology, the new interpretation of ocular imaging, imaging biomarkers of early diagnosis and prognosis, artificial intelligence model combined with ocular imaging. The specific potential fields of application and development of ocular Imaging are as follows, but are not limited to:
• Cornea
• Lens diseases
• Glaucoma
• Retina and Vitreous
• Ocular Immunology and Uveitis
• Neuro-Ophthalmology
• Pediatrics
• Visual Science
• Ocular Pathology
• Orbital disease and Lacrimal Disease
• Ocular tumors
• Ocular Trauma
• Artificial Intelligence
