Quantitative imaging and artificial intelligence will lead to significant advances in cardiovascular imaging within the next decade. Especially advances in hardware technology, MR sequence design, image reconstruction and artificial intelligence be the main drivers of innovation All non-invasive imaging modalities, such as echocardiography, cardiac CT, MRI, PET and SPECT will be affected by these developments. Regarding hardware and software development, novel quantitative techniques such as spectral CT, photon counting CT, T1/T2/T2* MR mapping and myocardial deformation imaging are among the most important drivers. Advanced AI based reconstruction algorithms as well as AI based image analysis tools are also significantly transforming the field. A strong interdisciplinary approach from cardiologists, radiologists, physicists and computer scientists is needed to shape these developments for the benefit of patients.
The focus of this research topic is on the development and clinical application of the different quantitative imaging and artificial intelligence techniques in the field cardiovascular imaging. We will present novel experimental and clinical applications of these techniques for the proof of principle, the early diagnosis, the monitoring of response to therapy as well as the longitudinal follow-up of cardiovascular diseases. We will also focus on the potential of the different QI and AI techniques to better understand the biological processes during disease development.
