Despite the advances that have been made in developing new therapeutics, cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the leading cause of worldwide death. The cardiovascular risk factors can significantly aggravate vascular injury and increase the morbidity and mortality of CVD. Until now, the mechanisms underlying the relationship between cardiovascular risk factors and vascular injury are not fully understood and remain to be further investigated. Early evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors-related vascular injury is the key component to improve the efficiency of prevention and treatment of CVD. Efficient clinical evaluation of important biomarkers of vascular injury may be a sensitive indicator for diagnosis and the therapy of CVD.
As the prevalence of CVD continues to increase worldwide, it is of great importance to put forward new insights into repairing cardiovascular risk factors-related vascular injury and looking for important biomarkers. In this Research Topic, we will provide an effective communication platform for researchers in these scopes to present their latest studies. We welcome manuscripts focusing on the investigations about cardiovascular risk factor-related vascular injury and its sensitive indicators, such as new molecular biomarkers. We expect both Original Research and Review.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
1) The cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the cardiovascular risk factors(e.g. aging, diabetes, obesity, hypertension, and smoking)-related vascular injury.
2) The role of vascular injury in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases (e.g. coronary heart disease, heart failure).
3) New strategy for elevating vascular repair capacity.
4) Evaluation of important biomarkers related to vascular injury (e.g. cytokines, inflammatory factors, endothelial progenitor cells, endothelial granules, microRNA, circRNA, lncRNA).
5) Other significant advances in evaluating or repairing vascular injury.
