About this Research Topic
Smart cities are known as cities where decisions are made based on information derived from data. 'Digital twins' as digital versions of cities, where data is collected by sensors, provide information to enable better decision making and therefore smarter cities. In such a context, digitalization and computing technologies play a major role. The two concepts are inextricably connected in many aspects, including their common goal of making the built environment and global cities smarter. Yet, research that draws from these two concepts, especially with regards to their roles in the development of cities, is scarce.
This Research Topic seeks to collect papers focusing on computation and applied mathematics, to present recent advances towards digital twins in civil and construction projects in built environment contexts, including smart cities, building construction and infrastructure. To achieve digital twins for such projects, researchers, and professionals must overcome interdisciplinary challenges relevant to civil engineering, especially in construction, transportation, infrastructure, remote sensing, and the built environment. Articles can present relevant research and case studies to these challenges and achievements.
