The unconventional tight/shale resources generally refer to shale oil, shale gas, coal bed methane and tight sandstone oil and gas. In the past three decades, North America has acquired enormous success in the development of such unconventional resources, quickly followed by the rest of the world. The geological resources evaluation shows that the global unconventional oil and gas reserves far exceed that of the conventional resources. Despite their great potential, the global production level in the unconventional resources still remains low and technical challenges are encountered during the complex exploiting and exploring process.
The goal of this Research Topic is to present the new technologies and methods developed in the evaluation and exploitation of unconventional oil and gas geological resources and to elaborate the basic theories, technical methods and field practice in the field of unconventional oil and gas geology and engineering.
We welcome interested authors to submit Original Research and Review articles, including but not limited to unconventional oil and gas resources, geothermal resources and natural gas hydrate. Potential topics include but are not limited to:
1. Unconventional oil and gas enrichment mechanism and reserve evaluation
2. New geophysical methods for unconventional oil and gas exploration and development, including seismic, well logging, etc
3. New theories and methods for unconventional reservoirs characteristics description
4. New technology and theory for unconventional oil and gas formation stimulation, especially in hydraulic fracturing
5. New technologies and methods to enhance the recovery of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs
6. Application of artificial intelligence methods to unconventional oil and gas exploration and development
