Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS) is one of the fastest-growing public health crises in the world. An increasing body of evidence suggests that the impact of NAS is not limited to withdrawal, and children affected by NAS are at risk of brain injury. However, the etiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders associated with prenatal drug exposure causing NAS continues to be unclear, having an impact on the management of thousands of vulnerable children around the world.
The aim of this Research Topic is to explore the etiology, neurobiology, epidemiology, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes of neurological disorders associated with NAS and prenatal drug exposure.
