We are pleased to announce this Research Topic designed to highlight high-quality content presented at the 17th annual conference of the
Midsouth Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Society (MCBIOS). The conference will be held virtually on April 26th-30th, 2021. The conference will feature a 5-day program with 10+ keynote/invited presentations from the renowned scientists in the field; special sessions with presentations from the FDA-led Sequencing and Quality Control Phase 2 (SEQC2) leaders on current sequencing challenges in precision medicine; workshop on reproducibility in statistical analysis and artificial intelligence. The mission of MCBIOS is to bring together bioinformaticians, computational biologists, and biological data scientists throughout the Midwest and Southeast regions of the United States to facilitate collaboration and to educate the next generation of scientists.
The Research Topic will focus on collecting state-of-the-art literature on the development, advances, and application of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics in the fields of biology and medicine. Various article types are welcomed (e.g. original research, review, short review, methods, etc.) and specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Application of genomic technologies in therapeutic development;
- Application of machine learning in predictive public health;
- Cancer informatics;
- Computational approaches for drug discovery;
- Network biology and medicine;
- Microbiome analytics;
- Big data approaches to drug safety and toxicity.
