About this Research Topic
The primary and secondary goals of this Research Topic are to clarify epidemiological changes of various infectious diseases and infection-related or -triggered illnesses under the COVID-19 pandemic and to clarify changes of opportunities of diagnosis and treatment of other medical conditions, medical seeking behaviors (e.g., asthma attack), vaccinations, health check-up, other health promoting activities under the COVID-19 pandemic, and stillbirth/birth rate. The further goal of this Topic is to estimate disease burden due to deterioration or collapse of the medical care system during COVID-19 pandemic. We also aim to predict epidemiological changes of various infectious diseases and infection-related or -triggered illnesses in the post-COVID-19 era by mathematical modeling, since susceptible population will expand under non-pharmaceutical preventive measures. Eventually, we expect to find out how to cope with indirect adverse effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
The epidemiological changes of various kinds of infectious diseases in countries/regions where COVID-19 is highly, moderately, or minimally endemic. The epidemiological changes of various illnesses related to or triggered by infection, such as preterm deliveries, Kawasaki disease, and intussusception. Changes of opportunities of diagnosis and treatment of other medical conditions (e.g., cancer), medical seeking behaviors, vaccinations, health check-ups, and other health promoting activities. Disease burden due to deterioration or collapse of the aforementioned medical care system during COVID-19 pandemic. Predicting epidemiological features of various infectious diseases in the era of post-COVID-19 by mathematical modeling. Solutions to those indirect adverse effects of COVID-19 pandemic.
