About this Research Topic
This Research Topic will cover the auditory implantable devices that are still available for hearing rehabilitation, distinguishing them in bone-conductive and active middle ear implants. Bone conductive implants will be further distinguished in passive and active devices, giving particular emphasis on possible differences between the two groups in terms of clinical and audiological aspects. Active middle ear implants will be outlined as a rehabilitative tool coupled to the middle ear structures (including the whole ossicular chain, a single ossicle or part of it) and to the inner ear (labyrinthine windows, promontory).
Topic Editors welcome for submission all article types supported by the section (see here for a comprehensive list), about, but not limited to, the following themes:
· Pre-operative testing for an auditory implant
· Bone conductive implants: percutaneous devices
· Bone conductive implants: transcutaneous devices
· Percutaneous vs transcutaneous devices: active vs passive systems
· Semi-implantable active middle ear implants
· Fully-implantable active middle ear implants
· Audiological outcomes after active middle ear implantation
· Imaging issues in auditory implantation
Keywords: Hearing loss, auditory rehabilitation, Active middle ear implants, Bone conductive implants
Important Note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
