Emotions are an important component in human daily life and are reflected during events such as decision making, social relationships and behavior. A good intelligent model on affective computing and regulation could benefit from the input of both human emotion understanding and management. In recent years, researchers have become increasingly interested in developing various brain-computer interface based computing and regulation systems that help to further our understanding of human emotion. Brain-computer interface technology, in addition to artificial intelligence and neurofeedback techniques, could provide a useful platform to explore the diversity of brain activities evoked under different emotions. As a result, brain-computer interface technology provides an easier, usable, and effective interaction approach to improve communications among individuals and machines. By the application of affective computing and regulation, brain-computer interface technology may further promote and advance development of affective intelligence.
To promote the development of brain-computer interface based affective computing and regulation studies, this Research Topic will focus on various new technologies or methods that could: improve emotion related brain data analyses, broaden understanding of emotion related neural mechanisms, explore emotion biomarkers, suggest effective and efficient computing methods, and expand other brain inspired applications in affective intelligence.
This Research Topic welcomes Original Research and Review Articles on topics including, but not limited to:
• Affective computing methods
• Emotion regulation studies
• Brain computer interface technologies
• Brain encoding and decoding studies for emotion recognition
• Machine learning algorithms in affective computing
• Brain inspired intelligent models
• Applications of various intelligent technologies in affective intelligence
• Review/survey articles
