The world population is aging. Maintaining and improve the function and health of older adults is one of the most important tasks of geriatric care. The health of older adults is determined by not only chronic diseases but also geriatric syndromes, such as frailty, sarcopenia, and malnutrition. The association and interaction between geriatric syndromes and chronic diseases and their impacts on health have not been fully understood.
This Research Topic aims to share valuable evidence regarding the association between geriatric syndromes, chronic diseases (comorbidities), and health outcomes, and to spread innovative tools and methods for assessing and managing common geriatric syndromes.
We welcome manuscripts to explore the association and interaction between geriatric syndromes (e.g., frailty, sarcopenia, polypharmacy, functional disability, and malnutrition) and chronic diseases (e.g., heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and stroke) or manuscripts to examine their impacts on health outcomes (e.g., mortality and quality of life). Furthermore, manuscripts regarding innovative tools and methods for screening, diagnosis, and management of geriatric syndromes will also be welcome. Original studies (especially prospective studies) or clinical trials are preferred. However, systematic review, narrative reviews, and brief reports will be accepted as well.
