About this Research Topic
Despite the advanced techniques lead to tremendous opportunities for the understanding of shale oil resources, uncertainties such as oil accumulation, storage, mobility as well as reservoir brittleness, etc. associated with shale oil sweet spot should be comprehensively considered to improve efficiency and minimize risks. Many scholars have made outstanding progress in theoretical research and field application of shale oil, to further promote the exploration technologies, we would like to call for a special collection of most recent studies on new advances and challenges in shale oil exploration.
High-quality Original Research and Review articles in this field are all welcome for submission to this Research Topic. Research interests include but are not limited to the following areas:
1. Depositional, mineralogical, diagenesis, and other geological characteristics of shale oil reservoirs
2. Quantitative characterization of shale reservoirs, connectivity, and pore evolution mechanism
3. Shale oiliness, resources potential, hydrocarbon occurrence, and enrichment mechanism
4. Geophysical, petrophysical and geomechanical advances technologies associated with shale oil resource exploration
5. Advances in shale oil mobility and sweet spot prediction techniques and workflows
