While large number of patients (75%) are diagnosed with malignancy in low and middle income counties, outcome data is sparse and mainly from retrospective in nature. The management of these patients with socio-economic difficulties, difficulty in access to conventional therapy and high dose therapy, or newer drugs for relapse, remains a challenge.
Management of lymphoma in India, a middle income country, has evolved with time. The Hospital Management system (HMS) and the data thus maintained has given us a reasonable idea of the epidemiology, subtypes of lymphoma, patient presentation, influence of nutrition on outcomes, as well as high dose therapy and newer treatments in relapsed and refractory lymphoma. National collaborative groups have been established in an effort to gather data on outcomes. The OncoCollect Lymphoma registry is one such, collecting epidemiological and outcomes data from 8 centers across the country, representing the various geographical and socio-economic strata of the patients.
Our aim is to describe the "Real World outcomes" from a middle income country, and address challenges faced in the management of a highly curable malignancy like lymphoma.
Topics to be covered will include epidemiology and distribution of subtypes of Lymphomas, impact of nutritional status on outcomes of aggressive lymphomas, outcomes of adolescent and young adult Hodgkins lymphoma, diffuse large B cell lymphoma, PET guided de-escalation of therapy in Hodgkin Lymphoma and management of relapsed and refractory lymphomas.
Authors who are working in the area of Lymphoma and have presented their papers in the National and International meetings will be invited to compile their work into original papers which will be reviewed and selected for submission.
Putting these manuscripts together from data collected prospectively, will enable future consensus statements and guidelines to be made more specific to local and developing world problems and likewise find the solutions to improve outcomes in Lymphoma.
