Our understanding of GPCR signaling in the nervous system is evolving very quickly. Whether it be the development of new ligands to more selectively modulate different receptors that affect neuronal function and neural circuits in health and disease, the localization of GPCR and G protein signaling to different parts of the cell, new receptor structures, an ever-expanding palette of tools to understand GPCR signaling, and finally the development of analytical tools and models to provide theoretical frameworks for all this- there are so many constantly evolving pieces that we need to stay up to date.
Our aim is to build a collection of articles around GPCR signaling to sample the constant and rapid evolution of this topic and to capture the breadth and diversity of GPCR and G protein-mediated signaling events.
This Research Topic has been developed in close collaboration with the Dr. GPCR Summit 2020 (https://www.drgpcr.com/summit-2020/) and will cover some of the themes discussed at the meeting. We welcome Original Research, Reviews, and Perspectives articles on any subject related to GPCRs but specifically on GPCRs expressed in the nervous system including but not limited to:
- New ligands and strategies to develop them
- Understanding GPCR function in neuronal cells and circuits
- GPCR signaling beyond the cell surface
- New tools and frameworks for assessing and understanding GPCR function
