With recent advances in science and technology, old and new challenges are constantly addressed by means of cutting-edge tools, towards achieving alternative and accurate solutions. In recent years, chemometrics, which embraces useful strategies aimed at overcoming numerous analytical problems both in laboratory- and industrial-scale scenarios, has been playing a key role in that context. Chemometric methods allow handling complex chemical data, and maximizing the extraction of the available and useful information they encode; moreover, their wide applicability and flexibility enables their exploitation in different fields. For all these reasons, chemometrics represents one of the winning cards for the resolution of many current chemical problems.
As for all scientific disciplines, the possible issues encountered in analytical chemistry are manifold, but chemometrics has been conceived for efficiently facing many of them: chemometric approaches, for instance, allow to explore complex multivariate data and highlight/unveil trends and correlations not observable otherwise.
The goal of the present Research Topic is to collect research works where chemometrics has been used for solving new and old analytical chemistry-related issues. Target studies can exhibit a clear applicative nature in the field of chemistry, but also a more theory-oriented setting. Furthermore, well-conceived reviews reporting the newest trends in this field of research and presenting a clear focus on the applications of chemometrics for the analysis of chemical data will be particularly valued.
