Major basic science discoveries in the field of chronobiology, together with the observed associations between circadian rhythm disruption and disease risk have highlighted the need to: i) increase our understanding of such associations; ii) test and implement rhythm protection and rhythm correction strategies in both health (at a population level) and disease (specific disorders, hospitalization per se, intensive care units).
The goal of this research topic is to highlight advances and practical experiences in human translational and clinical chronobiology, with particular focus on rhythm protection, chronotherapeutics and chronopharmacological strategies.
Original contributions and reviews in human translational and clinical chronobiology will be welcome. Topics will include but will not be limited to: work focused on school/work timing; chronotherapy; strategies to contain societal and health-care related rhythm disruption; lighting; circadian abnormalities in specific medical and psychiatric disorders plus ways to cure or contain them; the effects of rhythm disruption and rhythm protection on physical and mental health.
