In recent years, animal transport has and is still increasing – nationally as well as internationally - and receives a lot of societal attention. One crucial concept to ensure animal welfare during transport is the fitness for transport of the animals. Despite the agreed central status of this concept, it has received rather limited scientific attention.
This Research Topic focuses on the concept of 'animal fitness for transport' and covers all livestock species and types of animals and all types of transport (road, ferry, air, train and short/long distance).
We invite articles covering all aspects of pre-transport management of animals, studies focusing on clinical conditions and how they affect fitness for transport, as well as articles dealing with 'fitness for transport' from a more conceptual point of view. Articles involving experimental studies but also opinion papers or reviews are welcomed.
