Process integration and optimization are important areas within process system engineering. Process integration identifies and utilizes synergies in the overall production process, and minimizes the consumption of energy, raw materials, and natural resources, while reducing waste production and adverse environmental impacts. Process optimization is used to improve the design and operation of chemical processes, by aiming at maximizing the process performance and minimize the production cost. Recently, researchers have developed advanced process integration and optimization techniques, and applied them on a wide range of applications in chemical processes and related industries.
This research topic aims to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art techniques for process integration and optimization, their applications to chemical process and other related industries.
We welcome the submission of Original Research and Review articles, Methods and applications, as well as industrial studies. The areas of focus may include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Chemical, refinery and petrochemical processes
• Food and pharmaceuticals
• Biorefinery and renewable energy
• Process synthesis, design, retrofit and intensification
• Heat integration and energy savings
• Water integration and wastewater management
