In the past, when looking at inter-relationships between nutrition and health – the bones, heart, and brain have tended to take precedence. Now, with the emergence of the COVID 19 pandemic, coupled with rising levels of air pollution it is time for the lungs to take center stage and receive the attention that they deserve. Over the years a growing body of evidence has begun to form, looking at links between the diet, nutrition, and aspects of respiratory health. This evidence needs to come together and be showcased.
We are calling for contributions that highlight the importance of diet, nutrition, micronutrients, or bioactive ingredients in relation to lung health. Papers specifically relating to respiratory viruses (including coronavirus), infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (including emphysema and chronic bronchitis), bronchiectasis, pneumonia, would be of interest. We aim to provide an overview of the latest science in the field and create a portfolio that can be used as an educative resource for healthcare professionals. We welcome the submission of Original Research, Review, and Perspectives on subtopics including (but not limited to):
- Intervention Studies
- Inter-relationships between nutrients, immunity and lung health
- The gut-lung axis
- Nutrient insufficiencies and lung health
- Nutrients that could abrogate the effects of pollution
- Nutrients that show promise for respiratory outcomes linked to the COVID-19 pandemic.
