Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is a complex multifactorial chronic immune mediated disease that has a long preclinical phase. To this day, the way risk factors interplay in each individual to trigger RA is still largely unknown. Accordingly a better understanding of this heterogeneous network that is hidden behind each individualized patient may offer a unique opportunity to prevent RA.
The goal of this research topic is to cover risk factors for RA (both environmental, immunologic and genetic), describe the pre-RA status (both clinically and biologically) and give insight on strategies to prevent it and/or to treat it. Response to therapy in the early phase of RA will be reviewed.
In this research topic we seek basic, translational and clinical research contributions on the current knowledge of multi-factorial triggers of Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and on the concept of pre-RA including but not limited to the following themes:
• Suspected artralgia
• Undifferentiated arthritis
• Genetic risk factors for RA
• Environmental risk factors for RA
• RA biomarkers
