Cerebrovascular diseases mainly include cerebral atherosclerosis, thrombosis, stenosis, occlusion, cerebral arteritis, cerebral artery injury, intracranial aneurysm, cerebral vascular malformation, cerebral arteriovenous fistula, etc. In recent years, cerebrovascular diseases have become the dominant cause of death and adult disability around the world. Due to the high incidence, high recurrence rate, high disability rate, high mortality rate and multiple complications, the patients suffering from cerebrovascular diseases will shoulder immense financial burden.
It has been proved that minimally invasive endovascular treatment is effective for the management of selected patients with cerebrovascular diseases. With the advances in endovascular technology, new strategies, such as flow-diverting device, covered stent, mechanical thrombectomy, have been adopted for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases and have made great progresses. However, it seems that too few attention has been paid to complications of these new endovascular strategies. The prevention and management for these complications were important issues, remaining to be solved.
In this Research Topic, we will focus on both the advances in endovascular treatment for cerebrovascular diseases and periprocedural complications. We hope that this topic can shed light on the endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases for neurointerventionist, neurosurgeons and neurologists, and can finally improve the treatment effect of cerebrovascular diseases. We would like to accept the studies on the advanced diagnostic methods, mechanisms and new insight into endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular diseases, including hemorrhagic and ischemic diseases.
