With the exploration and development of unconventional hydrocarbon resources, hydrocarbon geology is undergoing innovative progress, particularly in the area of unconventional hydrocarbon geology. Hydrocarbon geology has experienced a theoretical leap from conventional to unconventional hydrocarbon resources in the oil and gas industry. In recent years, research in the geology of unconventional hydrocarbon resources has achieved great progress. This progress has boosted the exploration, development, and production of unconventional hydrocarbon resources. However, there are still some challenges and debates in the theories of unconventional hydrocarbon geology. Therefore, we need to deepen our understanding of the geological theory of unconventional oil and gas, particularly we need to emphasize theoretical studies and applications of sedimentology and stratigraphy on deeply buried unconventional oil and gas resources to meet new challenges.
It is of great significance to share the progress and advances in unconventional hydrocarbon geological research, to better serve the energy industry. The aim of this Research Topic is to summarize worldwide advances in geological sciences to address the challenges associated with unconventional hydrocarbon research and applications. We plan to include technical papers on various topics addressing challenges and debates on theories and applications related to geological sciences in unconventional hydrocarbon resources, including but not limited to tight oil and gas, shale oil and gas, coalbed methane, and their formation mechanisms, exploration, and development.
We call prospective authors, colleagues, and research groups working in the field of unconventional hydrocarbon resources, to contribute to this Research Topic on “Advances in Geology of Unconventional Hydrocarbon Resources” with Original Research Articles, Review Articles, Hypothesis and Theory, Methods, and Brief Research Reports.
Potential topics include but are not limited to:
• Sedimentary and tectonic systems in unconventional hydrocarbon resources;
• Lithofacies and sedimentation of unconventional hydrocarbon resources;
