Bioinformatics is playing a pivotal role in biomedical sciences and therefore revolutionizing the healthcare by providing platforms for comparison and identification of genetic signatures. We are seeing a surge of tools to offer a different insight into mechanisms to better understand underlying biological phenomenon. There are a list of options which bioinformatic tools provide us with in answering immunological questions and challenges such as to obtain structural information, gene expression patterns, genetic variation across populations, function of particular subsets of immune cells and most importantly to generate an informed hypothesis or prediction that can be tested bench-side. In this research topic, we would like to recognize such outstanding bioinformatics analyses and tools that are particularly designed for providing a deeper insight into the role of immune cells in neurological and ocular disorders.
We aim to encompass all the disorders that involve neurological, ocular and immunological diseases. Along with the direct involvement of the immune system in neurological disease such as multiple sclerosis and stroke. We are also interested in understanding whether drugs with an immunological target can have an effect on neuronal diseases like Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease. With the similarity of the structure of the blood-brain and blood-ocular barrier, we aim to encompass eye diseases with immunological features as well. The research topic will focus on, but not be limited to, the following aspects:
1. Tools designed to visualize the genetic and immune profiles of neurological disorders;
2. Computational analysis of immunogenetic patterns in neuronal diseases;
3. Investigation of a novel question relating to neuroimmunology using bioinformatics tools;
4. Reviews to summarize the current knowledge in the field of bioinformatic tools in neuroimmunological diseases;
5. Databases developed for neuro-immunological diseases.
The broad readership of this journal will attract a lot of scientists from all over the world to contribute to this collection.
