The cognitive and affective research in educational psychology is getting increased attention as one of the significant education domains. In the same context, it is still challenging because this educational domain is necessary to reflect the current renewable and sustainable situations that are required to follow and achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With various active approaches and methods becoming available, all these ideas and thoughts in educational psychology could be integrated into the area of Science Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) that can diagnose and analyze various peoples’ cognitive, affective, behavioral and multidimensional patterns as well as their peculiarities.
This Research Topic aims to contribute to a solid research corpus for addressing the challenges needed to provide an adequate STEM and Sustainable Development Education (SDE) to scholars of different educational degrees and backgrounds in the cognitive, affective, behavioral and multidimensional research domain. SDGs are increasingly forming a part of the curricula of many educational institutions. However, efforts must be provided for ensuring a proper implementation and development of SDE, and interdisciplinary study of sustainability-oriented topics seeking the SDGs in higher education, as well as fresh perspectives on existing challenges.
This Research Topic, therefore, encourages theoretical, methodological, and empirical research on teaching and learning, competencies and assessment, policy, program development and implementation, instructor preparation, community- and project-based learning, institutional collaborations and partnerships, and other relevant subjects. Special emphasis is placed upon innovative teaching approaches and methodologies that have been proved to be relevant on STEM education, not only considering the cognitive domain of the learning process but also the affective, behavioral and multidimensional domains. Examples include the flipped-classroom, blended-learning, gamification, escape rooms, virtual reality, service-learning, etc., all aimed towards furthering the SDGs.
