Dr. Leonard D. Kohn (1935-2012) was a prominent scientist particularly in the thyroid field. He was for 25 years Section Chief in the Laboratory of Biochemistry and Metabolism at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases of NIH. Then he moved to Ohio University as a Distinguished Senior Research Scientist at the Edison Biotechnology Institute. Dr. Kohn’s scientific contributions are numerous particularly in the field of thyroid biology and thyroid autoimmunity. Several generations of young investigators from all over the world were trained in his laboratories and Dr. Kohn had an enormous impact on the research career of his trainees.
The present research topic aims to collect all types of articles (original research, updated reviews, opinion, perspectives, etc.) on the thyroid field from authors (either former trainees or colleagues) whose work has been inspired from collaborating with him. Indeed, the purpose of this topic is to point out how Dr. Kohn’s teaching, scientific integrity, humanity, intuitive skills have influenced the scientific activity of all the scientists who had the possibilities to collaborate with him either as young fellows or as senior investigators. In addition, we welcome articles from authors whose work has been influenced by Dr. Kohn’s researches even if they have never met him.
