The most prevalent oral diseases – caries and periodontal diseases - are two of the most common diseases of humankind. They are responsible for a burden of disease, impacting quality of life and leading to years of disability. The goal of this Research Topic is to be a dedicated platform for in depth discussion about dental caries and periodontal diseases as non-communicable chronic diseases that share risk factors and indicators with a series of other non-communicable chronic diseases.
One way to explore the occurrence of oral diseases and their impact on human beings is to consider different life cycles. This collection will focus on epidemiology of dental caries and periodontal diseases from children to geriatrics.
We invite authors to submit original research articles or review articles regarding the lessons learned from oral epidemiology in terms of the risk factors for these diseases through development, as well as exploration of risk factors not yet known. As chronic diseases, it is important to consider the impact of caries and periodontal diseases:
- On quality of life and in other systemic diseases.
- Preventative measures to avoid oral diseases
- Early treatment and steps that can be taken to decrease the likelihood of other chronic diseases.
- Biological risk factors, behavioral interventions, social disparities.
All these measures testify to the burden of oral diseases and it is therefore important to have a multidisciplinary approach to article submissions.
